Upcycled Rose Art

A couple of weeks ago, my son and I ventured into a local resale shop downtown in our small town. I purchased several things to ‘upcycle’ and wanted to share one that I’m working on.

One thing that cements my love of creating art is, I’m always looking at how I can change something or make something completely new, like on canvas.

That day, I spotted a metal rose wall hanging. Immediately, I thought ‘add paper, add jewels.’ So, that’s what I’ve been doing. Here is the before, during, and after.

before
I cut out these papers and picked out these jewels
from the middle, I added paper petals to the metal ones
the pink outer papers are cut from paper doilies-
hearts, of course
when jewels are added

Gluing everything in will be part of the fun. I’ll use a decoupage medium for the papers and a nontoxic glue for the jewels. I hope to have the piece done by the end of next week.

I’m pretty excited about my upcoming Etsy shop! I’m going to have original canvas pieces and also upcycled pieces like this one.

Thanks for reading! Hope your day is great!

  5. Oh how clever! It totally changes the look and creates something interesting with greater eye appeal. I think Betty nailed it–those colors look very like spring.

    1. Hi! Sorry for the late reply. Been traveling today. We’re in Branson Missouri for a few days. Thanks so much. Love what you said. The white was pretty, but the layers seemed to have given it some personality. A fun piece.
