Jeweled Dolphin Art

Sometimes I make art to give to someone. Sometimes it’s for comfort, sometimes it’s for thanks, and sometimes it’s for no reason whatsoever.

Today I’m making a dolphin for someone who has been so super kind to me this past month during the loss of my momma.

Of course, people don’t expect return gifts for being compassionate, but in that lies the beauty of giving.

I’m sitting at my art table and thought I’d share how I’ve been making this, in case you want to make something similar for yourself or as a gift for someone else.

My piece isn’t quite completed, but it’s close. This is what it looks like so far:

my nearly finished dolphin art I’m making for a friend

Here’s how to make it:

choose a canvas, mine is 12 x 12
paint it an ocean-y color, paint down the edges, too
add in some blue and white for waves
waves
draw a dolphin
cut out and trace on canvas
use a craft /tacky glue and fill in with jewels and beads

I have some spots to fill in with beads. I’ll add in water splashes around the tail with paint and add details to the yellow sky, then mine will be finished.

Oh, and see those dolphins on the bottom fin? They are part of a necklace I found at a yard sale for a dollar! Pretty cool. That necklace actually inspired this piece.

Let me know if you try this! I’d love to see and hear how it goes.

Hope your day is sunny and great!
