New Recipe Box Gone Vintage

When making things for the last craft show, this really cool idea showed up! We were at our local farm supply store and I saw a metal recipe box that was made to look old.

Inspiration struck! I’d make it look even more vintage! After painting the lid with some white, I started adding pieces of scrapbook paper and gluing it down with Mod Podge.

Meanwhile, I also bought a cookbook lot online that had two old recipe boxes in it. Oh my gosh, it was so fun to open that package! One of the cookbooks was from 1964 and the recipe boxes still had the recipes in them, some were even handwritten ones.

I thought it would be fun to add recipes to the new recipe box, so I added them as well. Even inside of the lid for a bit of a creative touch.

I ended up making over all the recipe boxes and took them to the craft show. They brought quite a few nice comments and two of them sold. If this is something you’d like to try and you don’t have any recipe boxes, you might try looking at online auctions, flea markets, or antique stores. The ones I got were relatively inexpensive. The whole cookbook lot, including two recipe boxes, and the recipe box from the farm supply store were less than $15 each.

So, tell me, have you ever done a recipe box makeover? Or have you ever bought something new and made it look vintage with jewels and paper? I’d love to hear about it if you have. Feel free to leave a comment below.

Overall, I thought it was a great project. I will definitely be on the lookout for more makeovers like this. Plus, it would make a unique gift for someone who likes to cook or is just sentimental in general.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope your day is wonderful!

    • I bet! They are the best! Love the idea of a group of somebody’s, gathering all their favorites and getting them put into one book. One of the books I got is about salmon. There are some wonderful recipes in it. Also, that friendship one is pretty unique- instead of reading like a normal book, the words are horizontal! I about fell over when I opened those little recipe boxes and they had recipes in them. Very sweet.

    • I appreciate that, thank you! I’m hoping to make your cardboard Christmas trees this week. We have a lot of cardboard boxes from the bathroom remodel supplies, so that works out. I may try to make some tomorrow, actually. Hope you are doing great! 🙂
